India is enforcing a rule, to be found at

ndianembassy.org/newsite/visa.asp

concerning long-term tourist visa. The rule states that anyone on a long-term(5-10 year) tourist visa may stay 6 months in India but then must stay out of India for a period of 2 months.

Passports are currently being stamped with this information to disallow premature re-entry.

This affects you only if you have a long-term visa and want to leave India briefly and then come back in less than two months.

In emergencies, the Indian government may allow exceptions to the rule.
