This event, a gift to the spiritual seekers in the City, will be held on Saturday October 9, 2004 at 7:00 PM at Bloor Street United Church, 300 Bloor Street West, Toronto. A film will also be screened at 8:30 PM on the humanitarian projects such as free super-speciality hospitals that are equipped with state-of-the-art technologies in cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery, neurology and neurosurgery, nephrology & urosurgery and ophthalmology. To date, thousands of surgeries have been performed absolutely free of cost. The film covers schools, colleges and universities where human values have been integrated into the curriculum with positive results and also the free drinking water and other outreach rural projects that are benefiting millions. All these bear a testimony to the selfless and tireless saga of love and compassion for the lesser fortunate initiated and inspired by Sai Baba. Dr. David Gries, the keynote speaker for the evening will be coming from Ithaca, New York to address the meeting. Dr. Gries served for 5 years as the Department Chair, Computer Science and is currently Associate Dean of Engineering at the Cornell University. Joining him is Dr. Yassin Sankar, a Professor of Management in the School of Business Administration at Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia. He has written several books and papers on technological changes, human values education and business ethics.
The meeting is drawing public attention and is open to members of all faiths and communities. The seekers of Truth and Peace drawn from all religions of the world have been looking forward to such events in Toronto which mould character and help all to lead constructive and virtuous lives. Sri Sathya Sai Baba uplifts man by teaching and demonstrating that man is inherently divine and his nature is selfless love. Quoting the scriptures of various faiths, Baba often reminds us that "Love is God" and "God is Love" and Love is immanent in the heart of every being.
Sai Baba re-emphasizes the principles that form the foundation of the world's major religions: Truth, Right Conduct, Peace, Love, and Non-violence. He repeatedly exhorts mankind to "Love All, Serve All" and asserts that the essence of all scriptures is "Help Ever, Hurt Never!" Sai Baba is also the inspiration for the Sathya Sai School in Toronto located at 3321 McNicoll Avenue (Scarborough). This school offers students with an education program that balances both academic excellence and character development. The Human Values program has achieved impressive results in nurturing academically excellent, socially responsible, ethically mature and well-rounded students. Sathya Sai Baba has strongly emphasized that education should not be commercialized and should be free for all without distinction between rich and poor. Academic achievement has been the main thrust of the present-day education. However, values that promote good character such as respect, self-control, tolerance, understanding and compassion have not been adequately emphasized in the schools and would help solve the major problems of gangs, guns and drugs faced by the Toronto Schools according to the spokesperson of this event. Sathya Sai School has also been organizing since last two years, the "Walk for Values" a community event in Scarborough to practice values in our daily lives. The Sri Sathya Sai Organization has a presence in over 100 countries with more than 2,000 Centres world-wide, over 50 of which are in various cities across Canada. The Centres provide a place to meet, study, and practice the teachings of Sathya Sai Baba. These Centres are engaged in selfless service in their local communities. The Centres also offer meetings with group singing, meditation, self-transformation workshops and study circles. Two programs of character development Sathya Sai Education in Human Values and Sai Spiritual Education are offered to children in order to make them aware of the fundamental truths underlying all religions. Another community program of the Sai Organization which is gaining popularity here in Canada is the Dynamic Value Parenting Program that generates love and harmony within the family.
