Vinayaka Chaturthi Celebrations in Prasanthi Nilayam
12 September 2002

It was yet another day of joyous celebrations of Vinayaka Chathurthi in Prasanthi Nilayam in Bhagawan's Divine presence. The day began with Swami's darshan at about 7 in the morning. Prof. G Venkataraman, an eminent scientist and the former vice-chancellor of Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning, spoke before Bhagawan's Divine Discourse. Prof Venkataraman spoke about the significance of the festival and the relevance of morality in the present society. Citing the recently concluded Earth Summit as indicative of man's concern for the state of affairs in the world today, he opined that though many relevant questions were raised, the answers appeared elusive. One did not have to look far for the reason. When one lady proposed that 'Ceiling on Desires' was the appropriate solution for many of the maladies afflicting the world today, she was brusquely brushed with a quip, "Give me practical suggestions; not moral solutions". How could anyone say that morality is not relevant in society today, the learned scientist wondered. He concluded by once again praying to Lord Vinayaka to bless us all with buddhi (discrimination).

Bhagawan delivered His Divine message thereafter.
